The United Arab Emirates finds itself under sustained aerial bombardment from Iran, with the nation’s defense ministry reporting the interception of 11 ballistic missiles and 123 drones in a single day this Tuesday. The assault represents Tehran’s response to coordinated American and Israeli military operations against Iranian targets.
According to the Emirates’ Ministry of Defense, one ballistic missile penetrated the country’s defenses and landed within UAE territory, though it resulted in no human casualties. The ministry’s comprehensive accounting of what it termed “the blatant Iranian aggression” reveals the scope of Iran’s retaliatory campaign: 186 ballistic missiles launched toward the country since hostilities began, with 172 destroyed by air defenses, while 13 fell harmlessly into the sea.
The drone threat has proven equally substantial. UAE forces detected 812 Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles, successfully intercepting 755 of them. Fifty-seven drones evaded defenses and fell within state territory. Eight cruise missiles were also detected and destroyed before reaching their targets.
Despite the relatively successful defensive operations, the attacks have not been without cost. Three foreign nationals—from Pakistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh—lost their lives. Sixty-eight individuals sustained minor injuries, representing a cross-section of the Emirates’ diverse expatriate workforce, including citizens from the UAE itself, Egypt, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, and Afghanistan.
The UAE Ministry of Defense issued a measured but firm statement asserting the nation “reserves its full right to respond to this escalation and to take all necessary measures to protect its territory, people, residents, and to safeguard its sovereignty, security, stability, and national interests.”
In Washington, President Trump declared Tuesday that diplomatic engagement with Iran’s remaining leadership had become impossible. “Their air defense, Air Force, Navy, and Leadership is gone. They want to talk. I said ‘Too Late!'” the President stated. This marked a reversal from remarks he made just days earlier, when he indicated willingness to engage in dialogue with Tehran.
The conflict has also brought continued violence to Israeli territory. Magen David Adom, Israel’s national emergency medical response agency, reported treating five injured individuals following Iranian missile strikes on central Israel. A 40-year-old woman sustained moderate injuries from a blow to the head, while four others suffered lighter injuries from glass fragments and similar trauma. The agency documented significant damage to residential structures, though it declined to specify exact locations.
Israeli military officials accused Iran of employing cluster munitions in attacks targeting civilian areas. Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani, an international spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces, characterized the Iranian actions as “repeated war crimes,” specifically citing the use of missiles containing cluster sub-munitions aimed at densely populated civilian zones in central Israel.
The escalating exchange between Iran and Gulf states, occurring alongside the joint American-Israeli military campaign, presents a widening regional crisis. The effectiveness of UAE air defenses has thus far prevented mass casualties, but the sustained nature of Iranian attacks suggests a protracted period of instability ahead for the Gulf region.
